Chapter Four

Jana’s memory fast forwarded her evening with the double “T’s”. She remembered their dinner together: exciting, frightening, and relaxing. Their father was priceless. He’d spent about thirty minutes with them during dinner telling her stories of the men as boys and some of the crazy things they did. He asked about Liza and was sorry he didn’t get a chance to meet her. They all felt they’d pulled off the charade. As they started to leave, the boys went back to the kitchen to say good bye to their sister.

Dad pulled Jana aside, “You know I’m not stupid, right?”

Jana warily eyed her host, “Age brings a certain clarity and wisdom.” She smiled warmly at him.

“This weekend thing you’re having with my boys is a good thing for all of you.”

Jana silently nodded.

“Enjoy them, and if you can get anything into their heads, teach them that love is more than just sex. Don’t get me wrong, sex is good, but love, love is the key.”

Jana softly laid her hand on his. “I quite agree.”

He walked slowly away, stopping to turn and blow her a kiss before entering the bar.

Tim and Tom returned and took her hands, leading her from the restaurant. “We pulled it off,” they said in unison.

“No, sorry, we didn’t,” Jana replied.

“What do you mean, we didn’t?”

“He figured it out. He told me to enjoy my time with you and to teach you that sex isn’t everything…but love is.”

“Jana, we’re sorry, we shouldn’t have brought you here,” Tim said.

“It’s okay, really. Your father’s right, sex isn’t the reason people get married, it isn’t the reason people stay together for ten, twenty or thirty years. It takes real love to make that happen.”

“Yea,” said Tom. “Our parents have been married forever. They’ve always acted like newlyweds, to the point of embarrassing us on some occasions. We know what dad says is right. In this case, in our case, the building of this great friendship has been what’s enhanced our sex lives this weekend. Do we love you Jana? Yes, I think in our own way we do, it’s just not the forever after type of love.”

Jana turned and took their faces in her hands. “I know, and I never expected this to result in the friendships we’ve built. I’ve enjoyed the sex; don’t get me wrong it’s been great. But I truly believe we’re friends, and because of the unique sexual relationship we’ve shared, it’s made our friendship stronger, in its own…unique way. In addition, I’m completely relaxed and that’s exactly what I needed this weekend.”

“Jana, does that mean it’s over?” Tom asked.

“No, last time I checked we still had two nights and a full day together before any of us have to be somewhere else. Let’s go have a couple of drinks and then back to the hotel. Are you game?”

“We’re game!” they said, as if with a single voice.

“You two need to work on that, it’s…creepy.”
